Twin Oaks Computing at AUVSI's Xponential

On May 8-11, 2017, the largest global community of leaders in drones, intelligent robotics and unmanned systems came together to shape the future of our industry.

Twin Oaks Computing gave away 1000 stylish t-shirts, and our VP of Client Services, Nina Tucker, gave a popular Solutions Theater Presentation entitled Can Your Connectivity Protocol Defeat Cyber Attacks?

Synopsis: Unmanned systems share the common connection requirements of reliability and security. How are your software components connected? Does that connectivity protocol or middleware meet your reliability and security requirements? This presentation took an in-depth look at the latest advances in Data Distribution Service (DDS) standardized connectivity protocol with a focus on secure data communications. The DDS Security specification includes state of the art technologies for end-to-end secure data communications.

Clark Tucker Appointed Co-Chair of the OMG's DDS PSIG

The DDS Platform Special Interest Group (PSIG) is the group responsible for maintaining, updating, and generating new DDS Standards.

Clark Tucker, CEO of Twin Oaks Computing, has been appointed co-chair of the DDS PSIG. This appointment puts Twin Oaks Computing in a prominent position within the DDS Standards working group, ensuring our client's requirements are met.

What's New in the DDS Standards

The DDS Standards are continuously being enhanced and improved. Here are some updates from the June OMG technical meeting in Brussels, Belgium:

  • IDL v4.0 Language Mappings: With the new consolidated IDL v4.0, the OMG has been talking about how to update the various language mappings. Twin Oaks Computing presented a proposal on the format and coverage of the new language mappings. Agreement from the working group decided a new RFP makes sense. RFP will be reviewed at the Brussles meeting, and a release expected later in 2017.
  • DDS Monitoring: RFP in work, to define a common set of APIs to obtain health and statistics from DDS.
  • XRCE (Extreme Resource Constrained Environments): Defining a new transport protocol for extremely constrained devices and low bandwith networks.
  • XML Consolidation: Consolidate all DDS XML configuration (data types, QoS configuration, etc.) into a common format. This standard is waiting for approval from the finalization task force.
