First Public Demo of ContextNet and CoreDX DDS

May 7, 2012 The Laboratory for Advanced Collaboration (LAC) presented and ran the first public demonstration of ContextNet’s mobile communication middleware, SDDL, which uses CoreDX DDS. This demonstration was held at the 30th Brazilian Symposium for Networks and Distributed Systems (Simpósio Brasileiro de Redes ce Computadores e Sistemas Distribuídos - SBRC), held in Ouro Preto (Brazil), from April 30th to May 4th.

This demonstration exhibited:

• Real-time tracking of approximately 200 simulated vehicles on a map, where one of the vehicles was executing on an Android Tablet connected through WiFi.
• Reliable communications from the Controller (a Java Applet in a Web browser running in a Virtual Machine on a Notebook, and displaying the map) to the simulated vehicles, including unicast, groupcast and broadcast.
• Delivery of messages to the Tablet-based simulated vehicle when turning its wireless connectivity temporarily off.

The LAC booth was visited by many Brazilian researchers and students, which were quite impressed with the demo.
