Interoperability Demo, Reston, VA. March 2012

April 4, 2012 Twin Oaks Computing’s CoreDX DDS successfully took part in an interoperability demo March 21, 2012, in Reston, Virginia.

Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a type of Communications Middleware whose concept was standardized and is currently managed by the Object Management Group (OMG) . DDS simplifies communications processes among different system types, making distributed development easier, faster, and more reliable.

Twin Oaks Computing and five other DDS vendors demonstrated the wire-protocol interoperability of the DDS standard for communications middleware. This was the largest gathering and public demonstration of the standard's ability to support diverse implementations, installations, and versions of communications middleware to date. The demonstration successfully illustrated seamless data exchange under nine different scenarios across applications running on six independently developed DDS implementations.

DDS middleware allows distributed applications to communicate with each other by exchanging and sharing real-time data. The DDS-standard wire protocol makes direct communication possible between applications running on different implementations of the DDS standard. DDS applications can communicate even if they are written in different programming languages or running on different operating systems or processor architectures. And because DDS defines standard programming interfaces, application software is also portable across different DDS implementations, including CoreDX DDS.

“DDS has been embraced by hundreds of programs and projects to address their real-time data distribution and application integration requirements,” commented Richard Mark Soley, Ph.D., chairman and CEO, OMG. “Multi-vendor wire-protocol interoperability reduces integration costs and increases vendor independence.”
